Sustainability at Rento

For Rento, sustainability is a value, so we are committed to continuously improving our ways of working. Our sustainability work covers our procurement principles, our product range and our packaging, as well as ensuring that environmental responsibility is taken into account in our operations.

Our procurement principles

Rento products are manufactured in Finland, elsewhere in Europe, or in Amfori BSCI-audited factories, where the factory is located in a high-risk country according to the Amfori Country Risk Classification list. The country of manufacture for each product can be found on the product card. The Rento brand is owned by the Finnish family-run company Tammer Brands Oy. Tammer Brands is a member of the Amfori BSCI business network, which aims to improve working conditions in international supply chains and standardise the monitoring of suppliers. The Amfori BSCI system is based on UN and ILO conventions on human rights and working conditions.

Long service life of products

Our aim is for Rento products to be long-lasting in terms of both quality and design, as well as being easy to use. In the Rento product range, you will always find modern and innovative sauna products designed to inspire all the senses and withstand regular use. The user and care instructions supplied with many products help to keep the product in good condition and ensure it lasts for as long as possible.

Materials

Experimenting with new materials and production methods, continuous product development and taking environmental effects into account are at the heart of our Rento philosophy. We strive to select materials that stand with time, are visually appealing and meet ethical standards. We aim to increase the use of recycled materials in our products and reduce the amount of packaging material used, without compromising on product protection. We favour recyclable packaging materials such as cardboard, and all our packaging features information on the materials used to make recycling easier.

The main materials used are:

Aluminium is a light, strong and easy-to-work metal that is not vulnerable to corrosion. Anodising increases the durability of aluminium and the process produces the different colours of Rento aluminium products. It takes a lot of electrical energy to produce aluminium, but aluminium can be recycled basically forever. Aluminium recycling works well in Finland.

The heat-treated, laminated bamboo of Rento products is a light and durable material. The bamboo plant grows very quickly and does not require much water to grow. Bamboo products will stay beautiful for a long time, as long as you don’t leave them in a hot and humid sauna.

We use DuraSense™ by Stora Enso composite material and the Rento Pisara range of composite products contains 40 % wood fibre. The material is a combination of polymers and wood sourced from by-products of wood product and pulp manufacturing. Products made from this composite are designed for long-term use.

Rento textiles are made using surplus cotton from the textile industry. The surplus cotton is collected in mills and processed into a form that can be used as fibre.
